Henry Steeber, a native of Vienna, is a survivor of Theresienstadt and now lives in Dayton. He has contributed valuable artifacts to this exhibit.
When Austria was annexed by Germany in 1938, the roundup and detention of Austrian Jews began. Some went to camps in Austria, but most were deported to Poland or Czechoslovakia. The latter’s Terezin, or Theresienstadt, was a “model camp” sometimes shown to foreign visitors.
